Nothing like hanging out at the ballpark, hoping to salvage one game and not be swept when big Frank Thomas steps up to the plate with the bags juiced. That’s ok though.
He unjuiced them pretty quick with a grand slam served up by Manny Delcarmen and basically charged to Josh Beckett. And the Sox got their ass kicked again, losing 7-4.
I didn’t think Beckett pitched a horrible game. He had some control issues and he got his pitch count up early, but he still struck out six. It was really Delcarmen coming in from Beckett and giving up the grand slam that really ruined his day, pushing his ER from 2 to 5 with Delcarmen letting all of Beckett’s runners score.
I’m really beginning to think Mike and I might be bad luck. The Sox are starting the season 3-4, but we’re 0-3 to start. I’m sure hoping Opening Day goes a hell of a lot better on Tuesday.

Before we left the ballpark, Mike and I tried our hand at the speedgun. Even though I threw a whopping 48 miles an hour, I decided to have some fun with photoshop. If I could throw 88, I sure as hell would probably be playing baseball somewhere.
Yesterday was kind of uneventful other than the game. We drove five hours back to Verona to stay at Turning Stone, and encountered a guy at the border who told us he pretty much “hates all of you guys (meaning Red Sox fans). He was surprisingly friendly though, especially for an immigration officer, which was pretty nice. We got moved through the border pretty quickly, making it to Verona around 9 p.m. or so.
After a quick shower in the nicest hotel room I’ve ever had (and only costing $160! A real bargain), Mike and I went down to the poker room to try and replicate the success (+$250) that I had the previous stay at the hotel. Lets just say it didn’t go well. I ended up giving back everything I had won on a trip, and a little bit more. Frustrated around 3 a.m., I decided to call it a night, but it could have been worse.
Today, we’re checking out of Turning Stone for the second time in four days, and now we’re heading to Cooperstown today and planning to get back to Somerville around 9 p.m. Turning Stone is the nicest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and the price is definitely right. I highly recommend The Tower Hotel there, and I know for sure that I’ll be back.
I’ll have the final day of updates tomorrow, along with some pictures of the Hall of Fame. Good times.
