I hate you, Tim McCarver

September 15th, 2007 · No Comments

It’s been a fun weekend so far, but Tim McCarver is STILL a horrible announcer. He actually said today “From my experience, David Ortiz is the best clutch hitter in baseball.” I don’t know what “experience” McCarver was talking about; as far as I know, he was a catcher in the 60s and 70s (with some face time barely in ‘59 and ‘80. He’s such an egotist, I bet he did that just so he could play in four decades). I could count the number of times he’s faced Ortiz on NO hands.

McCarver wanted to say “in my mind” or “in my opinion” but he used “from my experience.” Um, you watch baseball games and talk about them badly. You also don’t even know the name of players on the team, so I don’t know how much your “experience” is worth.

Anyway, I spent last night out in Boston watching the Sox-Yankees game, first at the Baseball Tavern with Nikhil, then Unos for some food with Nikhil, Chris and Mike G. and then we all ended up at Crossroads (the bar, not the Britney Spears movie) by the end of the night. But things took a turn, the Yanks came back from a 7-2 deficit with a six-run eighth, beating the Sox. It was a horrible, heartbreaking night.

Today, I went out in Somerville to Joshua Tree and Orleans to watch the game with Chris. The Red Sox lead 5-1 in the seventh, and I’m hoping to avoid any five- or six-run innings today. That would be the goal.

Jeff’s coming in tonight, and if it’s even half as good as last weekend, we’ll have a gool old time. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow — a Hall of Fame pitching matchup (Clemens vs. Schilling) and an amazing NFL game (Chargers vs. Patriots). Should be an interesting night… think we’ll have to bring another television in the living room to put it next to the projector.

As for what else is happening, I start school next Friday. I’m doing a program through my employer and Suffolk University that should net me 15 credits toward a 45-credit Master’s in Public Administration. It should really help me in my job, and give me more experience, which is always a good thing. I’m looking forward to it, but it does mean I’ll work every week Monday-Thursday and go to school on Fridays. It sucks that I lose my four-day week, but the extra day off was starting to bore me a little bit anyway.

The Sox still batting in the seventh with the bases loaded… let’s hope they can keep this up. They’re up SIX - one now.

FAKE EDIT: As I was tagging, Ellsbury had a two-run single. He’s now 2-2, with 3 RBI and 1 R in the past two innings. He just came in as a replacement when Youks got injured. WOW.
