Nice little weekend…

August 12th, 2007 · No Comments

No update on Friday or Satuday, but it’s simply because I’ve been having a good weekend and haven’t really had a few minutes to sit down and pound out an update.

Patriots lost Friday, but it’s preseason, so I’ll let it go. The Red Sox have been playing horribly lately — and most of the blame can go squarely on the shoulders of one French-Canadian asshole named Eric Gagne. He cost the Sox games on Friday night and this afternoon, when he threw five straight fastballs and Miguel Tejada pounded one out of Camden Yards. Then Kevin Millar (not a joke), the guy who very seldom had a big homerun with the Sox, hits a 3-run walkoff job in the bottom of the 10th. Basically, NYY sweep a very good Cleveland team and we lost two of three to a not so good Baltimore team. This four-game lead seems mighty small…

Went out to The Tap on Union Street last night for my college roommate’s birthday. All in all, a fun time, although it was probably 80-90 degrees in the bar. I love warm weather and all, but it was so hot in there, I could barely stand it. Definitely made me not want to drink that much… I didn’t switch to ice water, but I thought about it a couple of times… cold beers just aren’t that cold. Also, that same day, went to Bugaboo Creek to visit Mike at work (and have my “birthday” there so I got free dessert) and went with Mike to Sunset in the afternoon so we could drink some ridiculous beers (that were very good), eat a huge plate of nachos and throw down some burgers.

Today, went to the mall, bought a couple of suits that I need for work (one black with very faint pinstripes, one navy with slightly more noticable pinstripes) which look pretty good. The thing taking the hit is my credit card, but that’ll be fine. I also picked up Enchanted Arms for PS3 (it was $19.99 at Best Buy — and there’s a reason for it), which is a role-playing game. About half an hour or so in, and I’m not really loving it. For something to stand up to this, which rivals all the Final Fantasy games and surpasses some greatly (I’m talking about you, VIII, IX and XI), it’s going to have to be REALLY GOOD.

Now I’m bumming around the apartment, waiting for Entourage to start. Thank God for this one show that has managed to get me through the summer. I’m still watching repeats every week of The Office and Scrubs on NBC, but the only other new series I’m watching every week is Last Comic Standing. Anyone else? I think Amy Schumer is cute. There might be something wrong with me, but hey — there’s something about her. And she’s related to Chuck Schumer — that’s cool.

Tomorrow, I’m actually going to work on a Monday for the first time since the week of July 4th (when I took the Friday off that week). I’ve got an in-office meeting tomorrow, I’m out of the office Wednesday morning at a seminar, out of the office Thursday for an office outing and then off on Friday.

And three weeks from today, I’ll be settling into the new digs in Somerville. I can hardly wait.

For those of you who are Sox fans, I’ll leave you with a bit of exciting news as well. The Clay Buccholz era may be starting a bit sooner than we think, as long as he’s running good at Pawtucket in his start tonight. Courtesy of Ms. Amelie Bejamin:

With the confirmation that Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett will not be the two starters on Friday in the doubleheader against the Angels. Most likely candidate?

That’s right. Clay Buchholz.

Buchholz is starting today in Syracuse for the PawSox, which would line him up perfectly for that start on Friday. Probable scenario would have Beckett and Buchholz starting, which would give Schilling an extra day of rest.

While I’m depressed about this Orioles series, this is very, VERY exciting news. So exciting, in fact, I’m giving Clay his first of what I expect will be many tags.
